LGBTQ+ Fertility Treatment Options

Learn more about common care paths for cisgender gay men, cisgender lesbian women, and transgender individuals.

  • LGBTQ+ couples and individuals can use assisted reproductive techniques (ART) like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) to grow their families.

IUI requires the intended parent(s) to select a sperm donor from an approved sperm donor bank. One of our fertility specialists will place the donor sperm into the uterus at the time of ovulation.

IVF is a more invasive procedure that involves several steps, including:

    • Ovarian stimulation
    • Egg retrieval
    • Embryo creation using donor sperm
    • Embryo transfer
  • A gestational carrier, or surrogate, is someone who chooses and legally arranges to carry and deliver a baby for the intended parent(s).

Our doctors do not use embryos created from the carrier’s own egg. Because either the intended parent or an anonymous egg donor provides the eggs to make the embryo, IVF is required with the use of a surrogate.

  • RMG helps LGBTQ+ couples and individuals become parents through egg donation and gestational carriers. Sperm from one or both intended parents is combined with donated eggs via IVF. The resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus of the surrogate in order to carry the pregnancy to term.

  • LGBTQ+ couples or individuals who need donor sperm can choose from an approved sperm donor bank for what is known as Therapeutic Donor Insemination (TDI) – or IUI with donor sperm.

  • Shared maternity or reciprocal IVF is a form of assisted reproduction that allows both partners in a lesbian, transmasculine, non-binary, or other queer partnership to be involved in the fertility treatment process. One partner provides the egg that is fertilized with donor sperm, while the other receives the embryo, carries the pregnancy, and gives birth to the baby.

  • Both egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) and sperm freezing (cryopreservation) are available for individuals who plan to transition.

  • "We wouldn’t have wanted any other experience. We have even gotten our friends to switch practices to RMG! I can’t wait to bring in our new baby to see the people who helped us make it happen."

Our donor coordinators work closely with your selected agency and your surrogate to ensure a stress-free experience for all parties involved.

  • Fertility treatment costs depend on a variety of factors, including the type of treatment and how many cycles of said treatment it takes to successfully conceive. RMG offers various financing options, including generous cash pay discount packages, Bundl Fertility™, and more.

  • Fertility treatment coverage varies from plan to plan and from insurance company to insurance company. Florida law does not mandate your insurance company to cover fertility evaluation or treatment costs. Therefore, it’s important to research what your insurance plan covers in terms of fertility care, either online or by calling the insurer or benefits representative, or both, before your first visit.
